$\begingroup$ if you give some more information like does it scratch glass it will be easier to identify it,if it does it is likely quartz but it might be a number of other minerals too. $\endgroup$ – trond hansen Jun 6 '17 at 18:20

Your rock is a smoky quartz crystal.

  • Crystal shape and textured sides indicates that it is beta quartz (imperfect hexagonal shape) with an off centered crystal termination.
  • The stone's brown translucent hue indicates it is natural smoky quartz. Quartz can be made smoky by Artificial irradiation but this tends to leave the crystal black not brown.

$\begingroup$ You can tell this is smokey quartz by its brownish colour, not clear or other colour and by its hexagonal crystal form with different size faces on the terminating end as commonly (not always) occur. Google quartz crystal form or check this example: rockhoundingar.com/_images/leftrightqtz.gif $\endgroup$ – haresfur Jun 6 '17 at 22:45

It looks like we are looking at the termination of a quartz crystal.
