I was recently on vacation in Hawaii and while there, entered a rock and mineral type store where I saw the rock below. I forgot to ask what it was while I was there and I am unable to go back and do so but I fortunately grabbed a picture of the rock in question.

What is this soul gem of a rock?

It is a quartz crystal artificially coated in thin layer of metal called aura quartz or rainbow quartz. They come in various colours and often can be found in new age shops.

$\begingroup$ Yes, I've been surprised by the number of made-up rocks like this at gem and mineral shows lately. There was one enterprising young man selling hazy/translucent pyramids made of epoxy filled with floor-sweepings, metal shavings, random trash, etc. Claimed mystic powers of course...Caveat emptor! $\endgroup$ – Tim Nevins Nov 7 '17 at 16:30
