I was cleaning out my basement and I found this wrapped in a cloth inside a tin case. Does this rock hold value? What is the geological history of it? I'd really appreciate insight on this.

  • Hey trevor, thanks for the info shared in the link u provided. i tried a few of those options like the streak test but im still not able to figure it out. – Kristin Aug 9 at 18:53
  • Hi Kristin, it might not be clearly stated but the intent of question 124 is for the person asking for the identification to post the raw data from the tests with the question, for example the streak test. You may not be able to do all the tests, and you may want to add some additional information such as texture. In the photo above my initial thought is that rock is a slab of sand stone showing varves, but depending on the lighting it could also be a type of shist like rock, one is sedimentary one is metamorphic. The results of the tests help with the id. – Friddy Aug 10 at 17:00
