I have read many articles and each has a own specific view, how we can calculate monsoon onset (for example Indian summer monsoon onset) in simple way? Can any one make me understand in simple way? It would be pleasure if most suitable required dataset also mention. Note; I am interested in interannual and seasonal migration of monsoon onset for south asia only.

Thank in advance

$\begingroup$ Maybe a naive question, but shouldn't the monsoon set in roughly the same time each year, since it is based on the heigth of the sun above the equator? Give or take one week. $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ It varies up to three weeks in extreme cases and it brings great impact on whole region. $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ And how far in advance would you want to calculate the onset? $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ I only interested to see the historical signature e.g 1995-2017 $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ So you don't want to calculate/simulate it, but simply have some recordings? $\endgroup$
