My son found a fossil on the beach at the foot of the cliff face at Robin Hoods Bay in the UK. It is definitely a fossilized piece of wood, but we would like to know what type, and also if it was possibly a tool of some kind, maybe a pounding stick? It fits beautifully in the hand and appears to be moulded to feel that way, there are obvious signs of wear in shape and patina, and both ends appear to my eyes to be beaten flat through wear rather than a break. I would be interested to hear anybody's thoughts on this. A bit of a mystery for us. Thanks.
